INFO + QUICK FAQ’S

Sessions typically run between 1.5 – 3 hours. This gives ample time for feedings, changes, and soothing for a baby that wont settle. I make sure all of my clients leave feeling relaxed and confident that we were able to capture a full gallery of sweet baby images

Nestled just outside of Red Deer in Innisfail, Alberta, my cozy newborn studio is designed with intention. A space where warmth and simplicity come together to create timeless newborn imagery. The palette is neutral and simple, filled with soft textures, and calming tones that allow your baby’s tiny details and emotions to take center stage. From the organic knits and woven blankets to the gentle hues that photograph beautifully in my signature style.
Whether you’re a Red Deer mama, or coming to me from the surrounding areas, the studio offers a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere without the rush of a busy commercial space. It’s the perfect setting to document your newborn’s first days in a way that feels real, natural, and full of heart.

There’s a good chance that baby will be unsettled at some point during your session, or fight falling asleep. I want you to know that this happens to everyone and don’t stress about it. We have all of the time in the world to hang out while baby feeds and calms.

This is always a fear of parents, but I am here to reassure you that baby will sleep during your session, and we have ample time to get sleepy snuggly photos. We are in no rush at all, and it’s common to for baby to be awake for a duration of the session. I have plenty of soothing and calming tricks for your sweet babe. It’s normal to take breaks and feed babe as needed, and it’s not uncommon for babe to want to nurse extra during the session.

If you have other children, absolutely plan for them to be a part of the session. Welcoming a new babe can bring a mix of emotions for little ones, so don’t stress if your children take time warming up to baby. They can come and go as needed, and we’ll make sure they get extra mama snuggles too.

At peak times, your online gallery will be delivered to your email within 6 weeks of your session date for you to download, share, and print at your convenience. Typical turnaround time is 2-3 weeks.

PREPARING FOR YOUR SESSION

Try and keep baby awake for 1-2 hours before the session. A bath usually helps keep them up and then ensures a good nap during the session.

If possible, feed baby upon arrival to the studio (after getting babe dressed). It is so important to make sure baby has a full belly to get those sleepy baby poses. A hungry baby will not pose and will remain unsettled during the session.

If you can, bring a soother pacifier. The bendable, green/blue one won’t leave marks. Even if you haven’t used one with baby yet, just for the 2 hours that I’m posing him really helps the session flow. It can make a 4 hour session into a 2 hour session. However, if you really prefer that we don’t use a paci, that is fine as well! I will always respect your wishes!

For breast feeding moms, some foods we eat may cause painful gas for our babies. Please avoid foods that can cause gas before your session if you are nursing. Please avoid caffeine if at all possible the morning of your session if you are nursing. Avoid tight fitting clothes on babe (like hats and socks) that will leave marks.

Extra diapers and wipes. (Also available in studio, Huggies brand in N size)

Nursing pad bra inserts to use in your dress. Most dresses are braless and tighten corset style. (Also available in studio, Walmart brand)

A pacifier

Toys and snacks for other children. This helps if they need to take a break during photos.

Dads: I ask that you wear a well fitting t-shirt/v-neck, (please avoid the typical white “undershirt”) textured thermal shirts look great, or henley style shirt to wear with a good fitting pair of paints, or if you prefer, a neutral solid button up. I suggest removing watches to keep the focus on baby.

Please plan on going barefoot in the studio (no socks!). I ask that you prep dad for this before the session takes place 😉

Mamas Wardrobe: I have a selection of dresses for you to wear, as well as outfits for the baby. I recommend light makeup, and if you have long hair, a loose wave photographs best and helps create movement.

You are a big part of the show. Photographing the connection between you and your baby is one of my all time favorite things. Just as they encourage in the hospital, skin to skin contact creates the most beautiful images. Nursing photos are a beautiful addition, especially if babe wants to nurse for a duration of the session.

Innisfail newborn session

happy vibes only

If you have other children, say no to micromanaging little ones during your session with me. We’ll follow their lead and redirect when we can, but scolding or discipling takes the fun out of the session. It’s in your hands to allow the magic of your family to unfold.

Embrace the chaos and let things happen naturally. There’s a 100% chance that things won’t go exactly as planned. The kids might cry, run away, not want to interact with baby, or have a full blown meltdown. Trust me when I tell you that photographing little ones is my jam and I promise we are still getting incredible photos, so never stress or apologize for your kids. Just remember to smile and laugh through the chaos. There’s a good chance that I’m still capturing beautiful moments (even though you don’t see it). You will love your photos (and the memory) so much more if you make the most of every moment.

FINAL THOUGHTS

TIPS FOR PULLING IT ALL TOGETHER

When it comes to choosing outfits for your session, think soft, natural, and timeless. Start with one piece you love—a dress with movement, a cozy knit, or a textured neutral—and build from there. Aim for earthy tones and muted colors like oat, olive, taupe, rust, and cream. These tones photograph beautifully in natural light and help keep the focus on your connection rather than your clothing. Don’t stress about matching perfectly—coordinating tones and textures creates much more visual interest and harmony.

1. Start with moms dress, and finish with dads outfit

2.Look for different textures (knits, linen, muslin) and prints (stripes or floral). Don’t be scared to mix them all together *avoid everyone in prints, and avoid matching everyone too closely.

3. Add layers! Knit cardigans, knee high socks. Add in gold jewelry to complete your look.

4. Add neutral shoes. Browns and tan photograph best, with materials like leather or suede.

5. Avoid blues, pinks, and reds, and anything bright and colorful.

6. Brands to check out – Free People, H&M, Zara, Simple Folk, Indie Blue, Joy Folie, Reclamation, Rylee & Cru.
